How the math works
- Whatnot commission is 8% of the sale price for most categories, 10% for sneakers.
- Payment processing is 2.9% of Buyer Paid plus $0.30. Buyer Paid is the sale price plus any shipping the buyer paid.
- Net to seller is your sale price after commission, processing, and any shipping you paid out of pocket (giveaways, refund-related adjustments).
- True profit is what's left after you subtract what you paid for inventory. Whatnot can't show you this. They don't know what you paid.

What this calculator doesn't cover
- Refunds. When a buyer refunds, Whatnot returns the commission and processing fee. You may still be out the shipping cost. Use the seller-paid shipping field to model that.
- Tips. Processed separately on Whatnot. No commission on tips in most categories.
- Boost or promotion spend. Handled in your Ledger CSV, not per sale.
- Sales tax. Whatnot collects and remits in most US states. Not part of your fee math.
Rates verified against the May 2026 Weekly Orders Report. Your rate may differ if you're on a custom tier or in a category with overrides.
FAQ
How does Whatnot calculate fees?⌄
Whatnot takes 8% commission on most categories (10% on sneakers) plus payment processing of 2.9% of buyer-paid amount + $0.30 per transaction. Total typical fee load is 11-15% per sale.
Is this calculator free?⌄
Yes, fully free with no signup required. AfterShows offers paid analytics ($19/mo) for sellers who want per-show profit, COGS tracking, and Schedule C export.
Does this match what Whatnot pays out?⌄
Yes. The math is verified against the Whatnot Seller Weekly Orders Report (36 columns, May 2026 schema). Commission, processing, and net payout figures match line for line.
What is real profit vs net payout?⌄
Net payout is what Whatnot deposits in your bank after fees. Real profit subtracts what you paid for the item (cost of goods). A $100 sale netting $88 might only be $30 profit if the item cost you $58.
